The title of this post poses a very direct question, but I’m curious. Are you playing StarCraft? Are you one of the countless fans playing through the game’s campaign for the umpteenth time? Are you pwning n00bs on Battle.net on a daily basis? Or are you just the creative type reaping all the benefits that StarCraft’s Campaign Editor has to offer gamers?
I am currently focusing my time on three different games. Personally, I hate game hopping, and I do it a lot less now than I did a few years ago, but I still do it. What three games am I currently jumping to and from? Well, the first is StarCraft, as if you wouldn’t have guessed that one. Since purchasing the game for my PC, I’ve made it a priority to spend at least a little bit of time each week with the title. The second game I’ve been spending time with and enjoying very much is Cave Story. The indie cult classic side-scrolling action-adventure title is definitely one of the best indie games I’ve played, and I urge you all to go play it if you haven’t. Last and certainly not least, the third game that has had me enthralled is Pokémon HeartGold Version. Yes, I am a Poke-nerd, as I’m sure some of you may be. Great game right there, but I haven’t been spending as much time with it as I’d like due to some serious time constraints.
So although I may be game hopping between three different games, I am very proud to say that StarCraft is one of the games in that list. Heck, it was the first game I started playing out of the three. But why am I playing those three games? Well, I actually have a different reason for each game. Aside from my love for all three franchises, I am playing those three games for very different reasons. I’m playing Pokémon HeartGold because I’d like to get a review for it published by at least the middle of next month. I’m playing Cave Story because I had been intrigued by Studio Pixel’s amazing-looking indie project, so I knew I had to try it out for myself. And I am playing StarCraft on my PC because I always wanted to do just that ever since I started playing the game on my beloved Nintendo 64.
So there you have it, folks. Three legit reasons for three great games. But what would I be playing if I wasn’t playing any of these? Quite honestly, I can’t see myself playing anything other than StarCraft at the moment. There’s just so much to see and do still. I haven’t gotten around to brawling it out against other StarCraft aficionados on Battle.net, and I have yet to even touch the level editor. These are things I want to get very acquainted with, features I want to spend a whole lot of time with. And I plan on doing just that.
So I think it’s safe to say for all intents and purposes that I’ll still be playing StarCraft long after I’ve completed both Cave Story and Pokémon HeartGold. Will you, the loyal StarCraft Fan reader, be one just like me still spending countless hours on StarCraft? I hope so. And I hope I see ya on Battle-net when I finally get around to it!
