StarCraft at Bargain Price

StarCraft at Bargain Price

So I went to my not-so-local GameStop the other day and started checking out the games.  I did my usual rounds, heading to the DS section first, then the used PlayStation 2 and GameCube sections, finally heading over to the Wii section.  I saw a lot of great titles and a lot of mediocre titles like usual.  Due to the fact that I am currently watching my expenses ever so strictly—I really want that PlayStation 3!—I didn’t buy anything.  I was but a mere window shopper this time around, and I didn’t plan on making any purchases.  (Spoiler: I didn’t make any purchases.)

But as I left the store I saw something I didn’t notice as I walked in: a sign that read GameStop Game Days Sale.  At the front of the store were a bunch of titles strewn in a pile.  Used titles, new titles, good games, and bad games.  But there were two that stood out to me the most.  The first was the Diablo Battle Chest.  Normally priced at $40, this amazing package had a price cut of half.  That’s right, the Diablo Battle Chest was being sold for $20.  Not a bad deal, and I was very close to purchasing it myself.  Believe me, it took a lot of restraint to put the box down.

The other game that caught my eye is a game that I recently purchased: the StarCraft Battle Chest!  I know, I know.  I already own it.  But when I purchased it at Target about two months ago, I got it at full price.  And honestly, 20 bucks for the amazing StarCraft Battle Chest is very much worth it.  You won’t hear any complaints from me regarding the price.  But I have to wonder, how was this game still in stock?  Oh, did I forget to mention the price?  GameStop was selling the StarCraft Battle Chest for the very sweet price of $9!  That’s right!  The price was slashed in half, and they decided to slice off an extra buck for good measure.  So I picked up the game, looked at it, and thought to myself, “Hmm.  Perhaps I should have waited a bit longer to pick this up.  I would have saved 11 clams.”  Then I put the box down and uttered the non-word, “Nah!”

Now, as sweet as it would be to only pay $9 for StarCraft, I’m glad I got the game when I did.  I have experience with the Nintendo 64 version of the game, but the PC original is the one I’ve been wanting for what feels like ages.  StarCraft priced at $9 is a genuine steal, and why people weren’t rushing the game and fighting over it is beyond me.  The game could easily be priced at double its value, and I’m sure fans would still foam at the mouth when they purchase it.  Priced at $9, it’s hard not to recommend buying the game.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is as follows: at regular price, StarCraft is a true gem of a game; at bargain price, it’s practically the most perfect object in this world.
