A Look at the Hyperion

StarCraft 2 Mercenaries

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is but a few long days away, and we here at StarCraft Fan are just about as eager for the game’s release as our loyal readers are.  That’s why we’re keeping our eyes peeled for any last minute updates, news, and info on the game.  You never know what you’re going to find out about a title such as StarCraft II days prior to its launch.  The latest update on the StarCraft II site is a preview for the Hyperion and all of the cool upgrades you can purchase for your units aboard the ship.

In between campaign missions, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase a bunch of different upgrades for your units.  These upgrades each fulfill a different stat, and they come at a different cost to your units.  So say for example that you go with the Stimpack for your units, you’ll have some powerful, fast forces at your disposal, but their health will leave much to be desired.  Juggernaut Plating will increase your already-powerful Firebat’s armor, making these units forces to be reckoned with.  These and other upgrades, from health to combat, can be purchased at the armory, and they’ll add even more strategy to this RTS title.

I don’t drink, but I know that sometimes soldiers need to gulp down a couple of beers with their comrades to get some tension off.  In StarCraft II, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the cantina, and here you’ll run into a number of different mercenaries that you can recruit to fight by your side.  These units have a set number and cost, but they will aid you greatly in battle.  Getting a hold of a mercenary’s contract won’t come cheap, but you’ll find that the hole these guys burn in your wallet is much better than the hole in your chest if you get taken down by the zerg due to having a low number of units.

The laboratory is where you’ll go to conduct research on other races and in turn gain new abilities for your terran units.  By having research done on the zerg and protoss, you’ll be able to add to your camp.  Turrets, upgraded weaponry, and better resources all come with doing a bit of research, so visiting the laboratory will be vital in making sure your StarCraft II experience isn’t more difficult than it needs to be.

The armory, cantina, and laboratory are all nice touches to what is shaping up to be an awesome title in the making.  Visiting these places and getting some sweet upgrades is completely optional, but it’s safe to say you’ll likely want to visit them at least occasionally and reap all the benefits StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is throwing at you.
