So the reviews are in, and apparently Heaven’s Devils is a hit. No, I haven’t read or looked for any reviews online by book critics. I actually know a few people who went out and purchased the book and have read it from start to finish. Due to their differing schedules, these three individuals took different amounts of time to get through the entire novel by William C. Dietz. I’ve been waiting for all three of these people to finish the book just so I can provide some fan reactions here on StarCraft Fan. So let’s move on, shall we?
The first person I’ll talk about is my friend Dawna. She got through the entire thing from cover to cover in just about a week and a half, and she told me she absolutely loved it. She found nary a flaw in the book’s storytelling design, pace, and overall plot. Her exact words: “Hopefully Dietz releases another StarCraft-themed novel somewhere down the line. This one was pure gold!”
The second person I know who read Heaven’s Devils is my skeptical friend Daniel. He went into this affair not expecting much, and perhaps it was that sour attitude of his that prevented him from enjoying the novel fully. He claims it was a bit slow for his taste, but also mentioned that when it picked up, it was hard for him to put the book down. Overall, he said he enjoyed it, but that he wanted it to be a bit more fast-paced. (Given his general impatience, however, I pretty much expected a reaction like this.)
Last and certainly not least is an acquaintance and coworker of mine. My pal Eric told me he was reading the novel in between classes, and I occasionally saw him reading a quick chapter before work. He really enjoyed it, and he hopes for a sequel. Being the literature nut that he is, he told me that until a new StarCraft novel arises, he’ll be spending some time with the upcoming God of War novel.
I was glad to hear that people this close to me genuinely enjoyed the novel. Now I just have to scrape up some change and go out and buy it for myself. If you haven’t checked out Heaven’s Devils yet, you certainly should. At least check out the free excerpts on StarCraft II’s official site. You may just stumble upon a really good book that you won’t be able to put down!
