The Big Day is Here

StarCraft 2 Terran Marine

Chances are if you’re reading this you’ve probably already gotten a good taste of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.  Heck, you may not even be reading this because you’re too enthralled in the experience, and everything else from the outside world has become irrelevant to you.  To be honest, I can’t blame you.

Unfortunately, as I type this post up for you, the great StarCraft Fan readers, I have yet to even touch StarCraft II.  You see, today is Monday, July 26, 2010, and the game hasn’t launched just yet.  I’m assuming, however, that by the time I finish this post and get it out to you all, the game will have already dropped and hundreds upon hundreds of StarCraft faithful will be playing it nonstop.

Midnight launches, parties, and mass play sessions; all of these are things spawned by the launch of a game as epic as StarCraft II.  It’s been a long time coming, but thankfully the wait is over.  Now, every fan of Blizzards well-crafted science fiction RTS title will be able to get their StarCraft on.  Correction: they’ll be able to get their StarCraft II on.

But what does this spell for the first StarCraft?  To be quite honest, I think people will still continue to play it, though not at the level they’ll be playing StarCraft II at.  And there are those die-hard loyalists who will remain true to the first game to the very end, bless their hearts.

So whether you’re one of the countless gamers who is switching over to StarCraft II while still admiring the first game, or whether you’re in the group of militant loyalists who claim it will never get better than the first StarCraft, let’s all rejoice and have a good time with some StarCraft!
