I’m not a big fan of writing. I find it useless. There’s no point to it. And quite frankly, there’s no trick to it; it’s as easy as pie. Of course I’m only joking, however. After all, I’ve centered my livelihood and career on writing—if you couldn’t already tell, I’m a games journalist—and writing is neither useless nor pointless. And it sure as heck isn’t easy. Well, it actually is pretty easy if it’s what you’re passionate about. I know I don’t have any trouble with it. But some of my closest friends and even my lovely girlfriend aren’t too big on writing.
But what exactly could I be getting at now? Well, if you enjoy writing (and even if you don’t), you will be very interested to know that Blizzard is having a nice little creative writing contest. All you have to do is write a short story between 2,500 and 7,500 words, submit it to Blizzard, and you’ve got a chance to win big.
What are the prizes, you ask? The lucky lady or lad who wins first place will have the opportunity to dine with the folks over at Blizzard. Said winner will be flown to beautiful southern California and have a tasty meal with Blizzard’s talented writers. Additionally, this lucky person will be able to choose between two collectible items. (Both of which are quite pricey. I’m talking $300-$450!)
Seven others will also be selected, and although their prize won’t be as grand as the grand prize, it’s still pretty cool. These seven individuals will get their choice of Blizzard archives which contain full novelizations of titles such as Diablo, Warcraft, and StarCraft. Nifty indeed!
This is a global contest, so you can be anywhere in the world and still enter. It doesn’t even matter which language you write in. As long as you can put a pen to paper, you’re good! Be sure to check out Blizzard’s official site for all the details. Make me proud, and write something StarCraft-esque!
