Being a Games Journalist Pwns

StarCraft 2 Aerial Protoss V Terran

I love my job. Being a games journalist is very rewarding, very satisfying, and a whole lot of fun. Now, before you start jumping to conclusions, it’s true what they say: games journalism isn’t all free games and opinions. To be honest, I’ve never actually received a free review copy of a game. But I digress. Games journalism is work. Hard work. But because it’s a job I love, it’s fun work.

Nothing beats getting my hands on the latest copy of a game, playing it through, and writing about it, dissecting its pros and cons as I go along. Nothing beats looking forward to the release of a game and writing various preview and hands-on articles for it. And nothing beats being able to write about StarCraft and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

But don’t get me wrong. I’m not just playing awesome games like StarCraft II, Furry Legends, and Cave Story. No, no, no. I’ve had to play some pretty foul titles in my young freelancing career. Just yesterday I got through the horrid WiiWare download Space Trek. And earlier this summer, right after E3 actually, I forced myself to get through The Tales of Bearsworth Manor: Puzzling Pages. It was hard, but I had to do it, and I have to admit that tearing those games up in my reviews was pretty fun.

But bad games aside, I have no real complaints about my job. In the end, I play video games and get paid to write about them. And if you’re wondering, yes, StarCraft and StarCraft II are a great part of my job. I can’t express how awesome it is to play StarCraft II and tell people I’m working!
