I’d Rather Write About StarCraft Vol. 2

When you’re struggling to make some decent dough, you can’t afford to make many errors yet you still make countless ones. My biggest mistake wasn’t to take that social interest writing gig. It wasn’t even procrastinating on a deadline that I have to meet by the end of this month. No, my big mistake was working security. For over a year now, I’ve been working for this small security company. Despite the fact that I am officially a licensed security officer, I don’t get many hours, the pay sucks, and when I do get I work I often find that it comes as an inconvenience to me because it takes away valuable time that I could be spending writing (or playing StarCraft).

But even after over a year of bounced checks, late paydays, and mysteriously short paychecks I still haven’t learned my lesson. I got a call from a coworker and friend of mine a short while ago. He told me the company was in need of workers for some music awards next week. The days are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6 AM to 2 PM, and if I know this shady company then I can almost guarantee that I won’t get a break during those shifts.

Honestly, it isn’t laziness keeping me from working those three days. It isn’t even my annoyance with the company. Part of the reason I’d rather not work those early hours is because I have a commitment to several websites that actually pay me on time. One such website is StarCraft Fan. Since I started writing for StarCraft Fan over a month ago, I’ve been getting paid properly and on time. No excuses, no tomfoolery, no shenanigans. I simply cannot say the same for that security company.

I’d much rather devote Thursday and Friday morning to writing reviews and news articles for the other sites I write for and blog posts for this site. Additionally, I wouldn’t be able to work Saturday morning because I have school, and academics are much more important to me than pleasing some crooked, cheap security staffing company.

So this post has served as somewhat of a reflection. I will not be working those three days for the security company which owes me money from months ago. Instead, I think I’ll just write about StarCraft. Hell, I think I’ll even play a little StarCraft while I’m at it!
