New StarCraft Novel: Heaven’s Devils

StarCraft Novel: Heaven's DevilsNew StarCraft Novel: Heaven’s Devils

Ah, literature, the one medium that I actually consider an equal to video games.  You can get so much from a book.  Whether it’s a graphic novel with mind-blowing art and a gripping storyline or a 300-page novel that literally expands your imagination, literature is something beautiful.  Combine StarCraft with literature and you’ve got a really awesome thing going.  In the past, I’ve talked about the StarCraft manga, I’ve reviewed the short stories that are found on StarCraft II’s official website, and I’ve expressed my love for reading more than just a couple times.

It seems that there’s something new in the way of StarCraft-based reading material.  Heaven’s Devils, a novel by William C. Dietz, is set to tell the story of Jim Raynor’s friendship with Tychus Findlay.  According to the excerpt on the site, the two will experience hardships in battle, see a lot of destruction, and rely on their friendship to get through the events that take place throughout the course of the novel.

It’s good storytelling fare, but what caught my attention most was the note that read that every Wednesday a new chapter from the novel will be posted online for fans to check out.  Personally, I’m all for it.  But I wonder if every single chapter will be posted eventually, or just enough to whet one’s appetite.  Only time will tell, I guess.

Already the first chapter of the novel has been posted on the site, and I am very eager to read it.  (I plan on doing that later today when I have some spare time.  Or maybe early tomorrow morning.)  Be sure to check out StarCraft Fan as I’ll be giving my thoughts on each posted chapter.

Oh, but if the entire book is posted on the site, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try and get the hard copy.  Autographed copies as well as collector’s edition volumes are being distributed for a limited time, and die-hards are sure to want to get their hands on those.

StarCraft literature is a wonderful thing.  It’s nice to know that after playing StarCraft for hours on end, you can take a little break and read a StarCraft novel.
