I don’t consider myself some jumpy caffeine addict. I certainly don’t need caffeine to get through the day. But admittedly I do drink a can of Coke or Pepsi a day. Some days I drink two cans of Coke or Pepsi. But I don’t think I’m addicted to either soda or caffeine. And here I find myself struggling to stay awake on a daily basis for what feels like an eternity.
You see, due to religious reasons, I have chosen to give up drinking soda and energy drinks for the next 40 days until Easter comes along. Just over a week into this period, and I already have trouble staying up past 10. It’s a sad thing indeed. And as I sit here and drink this cup of coffee which will likely get me through half of my day, I ponder. I ponder on what I should resort to in order to get through the second half of my day. I’m not one to drink two cups of coffee a day. I don’t take those energy pills you see in the infomercials for the simple fact that I don’t trust them. And if there’s any other form of energy I can intake, please let me know.
So I think to myself, Where can I, a sleep-deprived writer, artist, and gamer, garner the energy to just get through the day? StarCraft! Yes, last night when the clock was nearing 10, and I found my eyelids growing heavy, I decided to have a little StarCraft playing session. I played for about 45 minutes, and just like that I was up. No heavy eyelids, no fatigue, no exhaustion. I had found my alternative to caffeine.
I ended up staying up past midnight last night. StarCraft just managed to give me that boost I needed and helped me stay up long enough to get some more writing done. It’s that effective, people. So now I would like to say to all my fellow caffeine drinkers, before you pour yourself that third cup of coffee or open that fourth or fifth can of soda, why not play a little StarCraft? I’m not saying stop drinking caffeine completely, but maybe StarCraft can help you cut down. It’s not bad for you like caffeine, and it’s certainly more fun than scalding your lips as you desperately take that sip of hot coffee.
