In the past few days we’ve taken a look at StarCraft on the PC and Nintendo 64. Both games have great content, great mechanics, and a great presentation, but the PC version is the overall better choice. In this entry of my StarCraft PC vs. StarCraft 64 series I’ll talk about why the PC game is the more solid choice of the two.
StarCraft on the PC has managed to take gamers by storm for over a decade. This is because since the time of its launch to today it still manages to hold up well, and it rivals some of today’s best games thanks to its classic, timeless gameplay. StarCraft on the PC has been around since 1998, and its legacy will live on for decades to come.
But just what is it that brought StarCraft to the table? It was its blend of real-time strategy gameplay, its action-packed style, and its amazing science fiction setting. Its official expansion, Brood War, only added to the value of the StarCraft universe, and it gave players incentive to go back to the world of StarCraft and experience even more thrills.
When it was released, StarCraft was a mighty fine-looking game. Blizzard employed 2D graphics and gave them as much worth as those found in any strong 3D game. This is due to the fact that Blizzard gave the game this amazing aesthetic look that may not be the most technically impressive by today’s standards—although it was for its time—but still manages to have this great sense of artistry not seen in many games nowadays. Additionally, the game’s cut-scenes were great and helped push the story along very smoothly.
StarCraft on the PC is indeed a timeless classic. Just ask all of those people who have played it countless times in the past few years. Or ask those who are just getting into it and already love it as much as they love Halo, Super Mario, and God of War. So why play StarCraft on the PC? Well, maybe because it’s one of the most iconic PC games of all time!
