The Ultimate Competitive Real-time Strategy Game

Blizzard has said it, and now the fans will see if that statement holds true. Dubbed the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game by the wonderful people over at Blizzard Entertainment, gamers already have insanely high expectations for the upcoming computer game. But when everything is said and done and the smoke has cleared, will Blizzard have delivered the goods?

In all honesty, I can’t see how they could go wrong. The amount of time they’ve put into the game is far more than is necessary for most other titles. So what exactly are the folks over at Blizzard cooking up in their laboratory? When creating a sequel, most developers don’t really stray too far from the formula set by the first game, so it’s usually out a year later. It’s been over a decade since the first StarCraft was released, and you have to believe that talks about a sequel went on even before the first game was unleashed unto the masses.

So when Blizzard reps say, “StarCraft II will indeed be the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game,” you better believe I’m taking their word for it. They’re obviously putting a ton of care into the product, and the manpower at use is simply unfathomable.

I can just imagine being a Blizzard employee working on StarCraft II. I can imagine countless cups of coffee. I can imagine sleepless nights. I can imagine stress beyond belief. I can imagine looking to the future, when StarCraft II launches, and the feeling of accomplishment that launch will have on everyone who is a part of team StarCraft II.

It sounds like a challenging, enjoyable, busy life. And as much as I’d like to be a part of a team creating epic games such as StarCraft II, I think I’ll stick to writing about them. But I digress. The amount of manpower going into this project; the seemingly endless amount of time put into the game; the resources being used to push the game to its technical limits. All of this helps me sleep at night, because I know when StarCraft II launches it may very well be the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game. Not only that, but it will also be the ultimate competitive real-time strategy experience.
